Chapter 8 Shlokas 1, 2

अर्जुन उवाच

किं तद्ब्रह्म किमध्यात्मं किं कर्म पुरुषोत्तम।

अधिभूतं च किं प्रोक्तमधिदैवं किमुच्यते।।१।।

अधियज्ञ: कथं कोऽत्र देहेऽस्मिन्मधुसूदन।

प्रयाणकाले च कथं ज्ञेयोऽसि नियतात्मभि:।।२।।

Now Arjuna asks Lord Krishna:

O Purushottam! What is Brahm? What is Adhyatam?

What is karma? What is Adhibhoot? What is Adhidaiva?

O Madhusudan, who is Adhiyagya and how does

He abide in the body? How art Thou known

by people of steadfast mind in their last moments?

अर्जुन उवाच

Arjuna seeks clarification on these seven questions that arise in his mind and the Lord answers them subsequently.
