Chapter 7 Shloka 11
बलं बलवतां चाहं कामरागविवर्जितम्।
धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ।।११।।
Helping the sadhak to proceed on his path of spiritual practice, the Lord further states:
I am the strength of the mighty devoid of desire and passion; Oh Arjuna! In all beings I am that desire which is consistent with Dharma.
Little one, the Lord says:
a) I am the strength of the mighty; but I am not avarice, nor passion.
b) I am the desire to interact in accordance with dharma, but not that tendency which is contrary to dharma.
c) I abide in accordance with shreya – the elevated path, not in accordance with preya – the path of degradation.
d) If your might is used in the pursuance of dharma, I will always be there. If that strength is used contrary to dharma, I do not support it.
1. The Lord is righteous.
2. He is blemishless.
3. He is the support of dharma.
4. He abides in every noble deed.
Little one,
1. If you take pride in your virtuousness or goodness, renounce that pride, for all virtue and goodness are the Lord Himself.
2. If you are proud of being a sadhak or a spiritual aspirant, renounce that pride too; for the Lord Himself is that elevated aspiration.
3. If you are proud of any power of your body, relinquish that pride, for it is the Lord who is the Giver of that prowess.
It is the ‘I’ which prompts desire and passion. The pure energy of the Lord is inherent in all individuals – unfortunately, that purity is cloaked by the mind.
The devotion of the devotee is the Lord’s, the strength of the mighty is the Lord’s; then just consider – what place does the ‘I’ have in your life?
Little one, all is the Lord – the Atma – purity itself, if one does not vitiate it with ‘I’ and ‘mine’.
The Lord is exhibiting His universal power as the Atma. If spiritual knowledge reveals the Atma everywhere, then the practical application of that knowledge proves the completeness of the Atma in every aspect. If His essence is the Atma, His manifest form is the totality of beauteous qualities.
You must remember that the Lord is saying all this to the sadhak from the point of view of the Atmavaan.
