Chapter 1 Shloka 7

अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम।

नायका मम सैन्यस्य संज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते।।७।।

Now Duryodhana describes the chief warriors of his own army:

O Dvijottam, best of Brahmins!

I shall  mention for your information,

the names of the distinguished generals of our army.

Chapter 1 Shloka 7

अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम।

नायका मम सैन्यस्य संज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते।।७।।

Now Duryodhana describes the chief warriors of his own army:

O Dvijottam, best of Brahmins! I shall mention for your information, the names of the distinguished generals of our army.

Duryodhana addressed Dronacharya as ‘Dvijottam’ – the best amongst Brahmins. He did not address Dronacharya as:

1. ‘Purushottam’ or ‘Great among men’;

2. The conqueror of men;

3. The victor of wars;

4. All powerful or an eminent man of courage.

Why?

He called Dronacharya a Brahmin in order to provoke him and to warn him, that even though he is a Brahmin, he has come to fight. He asked him to be careful, to use his full prowess in the war, and to exhibit his capability in warring strategies.

Then he said, “I shall tell you the names of the principal warriors of our army, who are proficient in war, who are clever with their weapons, who are full of strength and vigour, whose fame is widespread.”

In other words he is saying, “Our side is not weak. Our army also consists of many warriors of merit.”
