Chapter 10 Shlokas 12, 13
अर्जुन उवाच
परं ब्रह्म परं धाम पवित्रं परमं भवान्।
पुरुषं शाश्वतं दिव्यमादिदेवमजं विभुम्।।१२।।
आहुस्त्वामृषय: सर्वे देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा।
असितो देवलो व्यास: स्वयं चैव ब्रवीषि मे।।१३।।
Arjuna says, “O Lord! O Krishna!
You are the Supreme Brahm, the Supreme abode, the most holy! All the Rishis proclaim You to be the ancient, divine Purusha, the Overlord of all, the Unborn and Omnipresent One. The divine sages Narada, Asit, Deval and Vyas also proclaim the same. You, too, have clarified the same.
Arjuna says to the Lord, those who know the Truth say that:
a) You are the Supreme Lord,
b) You are the Divine Brahm,
c) You are the Supreme abode,
d) You are infinitely pure,
e) You are the Ancient One,
f) You are the Divine Purusha,
g) You are the Overlord of all the deities,
h) You are omnipresent.
You too, have said the same. All these names mentioned by Arjuna – the wise rishis Narada, Asit, Deval and Vyas, were:
1. Knowers of Brahm;
2. Knowers of the Supreme Essence;
3. Knowers of the Essential Truth;
4. Great performers of tapas and yagya;
5. Those who discerned between the Essence and the manifest form;
6. Those who understood that the proof of the Lord’s divinity lay in His practical life;
7. Those who understood the love of the detached One;
8. Those who knew that the greatest love had detachment as a latent ingredient;
9. Those who knew the secret of being extremely ordinary and at the same time absolutely unique;
10. Those who could perceive the truth about the manifest qualities of the Unmanifest One;
11. Those who perceived the truth of the manifest form of the Supreme transcending all qualities;
12. Those who understood the desirelessness of the One who fulfilled the desires of all;
13. Those who comprehended the unequalled supremacy of One who was the servitor of all;
14. Those who knew that attributeless One who possessed all the supreme qualities, yet transcended them all;
15. Those who knew that Truth which was wrought by Prakriti, seemingly controlled by Prakriti, yet which completely transcended the orbit of the attributes of Prakriti.
Those great Rishis of wisdom were replete with knowledge and the logic of inference. When Lord Krishna Himself stood before them, they received the proof of their knowledge. Before them stood Brahm manifested!
Therefore Arjuna says, “I believe what You say is the Truth.”
